Haser's TopPlaces to visitin AucklandI think when most people think of Avondale, they think of the Sunday Market. I’ve been going there since I was a kid. I’m very grateful I get to take my own kids there, and we can wander down there on a Sunday morning.
My favourite breakfast spot is Burnt Butter. It’s run by Ryan and Claudia, two amazing chefs and bakers. The food that they make is real soul food.
One of my favourite local spots is Ol’ Mate, which is the little yellow caravan situated in Avondale. Great coffee, great food, and also I had the opportunity to create a mural right next to them.
A little gem in New Lynn is Mt Atkinson. The kaupapa there is great - it’s Māori-led. Their menu is based on a lot of the western suburbs. As an artist, one of my daily practices is creating a daily drawing.
The cool thing about Avondale is this cool graffiti park they’ve had for two decades, and it has always allowed local artists to test their materials and test their skills. It’s a recurring wall which invites talent from outside of the suburb.
